Dr. Patsy Cornelius


Dr. Patsy Cornelius has been a nurse for over 40-years, with experience in ICU, perioperative, quality management, medical-surgical, school nursing, hospital administration, and managed care network development and management. She entered academia in 2002 as a classroom and clinical instructor, focusing on cardiovascular and digestive disease care. She has been instrumental in developing two baccalaureate nursing programs in AR and developing the curriculum for the health professions undergraduate program for E-Versity, the online branch of the University of AR system. In addition to her professional career, Dr. Cornelius served in the elected capacity of City Director –Texarkana, AR, and President, District 28, TX NA.


Patsy joined Western Governors University (WGU) in the spring of 2015, as a part-time evaluation faculty member for the MSN program, while working full-time as an Associate Professor in the BSN program at John Brown University. She is now a full-time Course Lead faculty for the MSN Core courses at WGU. Dr. Cornelius holds a Ph.D. in Nursing Education from Capella University, where she graduated with distinction. Her doctoral research was on team-based learning in baccalaureate nursing programs. Dr. Cornelius obtained her MS in Nursing Leadership from Regis University, Denver, CO, where she also graduated with distinction. She was selected as an AACN Faculty Policy Fellow in 2015. Along with the other 2015 AACN Faculty Policy Fellows, she co-published research on the perception of the importance of policy as a standalone curriculum in nursing education.
