Dr. Ilene Gottesfeld


Dr. Ilene Gottesfeld has been a nurse and a nurse leader for over 40 years, during which time she has attained the rank of Professor. Dr. Gottesfeld is currently a Course Instructor II, Product Specialist, and Subject Matter Expert for Product Development at Western Governors University’s (WGU) College of Health Professions. As with all student-facing faculty at WGU, the rank of Course Faculty II, is the highest rank for faculty, on par with the status of Professor.

Dr. Gottesfeld has an extensive background in pediatric and neonatal nursing, particularly in pediatric cardiovascular nursing, on which she has given numerous presentations. Dr. Gottesfeld was awarded her Ed.D. in Instructional Technology and Distance education from Nova Southeastern University in 1999, where her dissertation topic was, “Using an Alternative Learning Environment to Facilitate the Acquisition of Critical Thinking Skills in Baccalaureate Undergraduate Nursing Students.” Her expertise in alternative learning environments has 

facilitated her professional endeavors as a Nursing Program Manager for the University of Phoenix, and a Senior Learning Solutions Designer for Medical Simulation Corporation (MSC). At MSC, she was responsible for areas such as simulation product evaluation and learning solutions design. Dr. Gottesfeld is widely published on patient care topics such as allergic skin reactions to medication, insect bites, and fungal infections, the care of the child with congenital heart disease, and identifying and managing patients with gestational diabetes. She has presented numerous times around the nation on pediatric care issues, simulation, the importance of debriefing, and online learning.
