Dr. Gail Withers
Dr. Gail Withers has been an RN for 33 years. Dr. Withers earned her DNP in Organizational Leadership in 2012, from the University of Kansas School of Nursing, Kansas City, KS, and her MSN in Nursing Education and Maternal-Newborn Clinical Nurse Specialty in 1994 from Wichita State University, Wichita, KS. Her appointment at Western Governors University began in March 2016 and she holds the rank of Course Faculty II. As with all student-facing faculty at WGU, the rank of Course Faculty II is the highest rank for faculty, on par with the status of Professor. She is recognized as a cohort specialist and course community manager.
Dr. Withers’ nursing career began in a rural community at a county hospital in Kansas where she delivered direct patient care and served as a charge nurse. She has nursing practice experience in every area of hospital nursing, but primarily in Labor/Delivery/Recovery/Postpartum. Dr. Withers’ nurse educator career started in 1991. She has taught pre-licensure PN, ADN, and BSN students and post-licensure MSN students. She has taught nursing theory, skills, and clinical practicum, while also being involved in curriculum development, program evaluation, grant writing and administration, and program collaboration. She exemplifies nursing leadership with her experience as a college Dean, Faculty Manager, and Coordinator. Dr. Withers managed the first Kansas pilot online PN and ADN programs. She has developed collaborative partnerships with other community colleges, articulation with BSN programs, and the Kansas Department of Corrections. She has managed 3 on-site campuses, which included LPN to RN and Paramedic to RN.
